Several years ago, a storm blew through Concord, Massachusetts, leaving broken boughs and branches scattered across the town. One huge limb from a copper beech came down and crushed the gate to a pool, and the owners wanted a replacement that echoed and improved on the previous gate design.

The new gate incorporates the vertical posts and scrolls of the old gate, but turns them into fiddleheads and twisting vines like the ones that surround the pool.
